SQUID GAME FANS REJOICE! The smash-hit Netflix series will return with Season 2!
The South Korean drama took the world by storm after arriving on the streaming platform, gripping audiences as they watched the plight of people in severe debt taking on a sadistic game for the chance of winning a fortune. The series quickly surpassed period drama Bridgerton as Netflix’s most-watched series to date.
With season one ending on a cliffhanger, fans have passionately spoken about their desire for season two. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk spoke to the Associated Press this week about the show’s hugely successful run on Netflix and the desire for more:
“So, there’s been so much pressure, so much demand, and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But, I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”
He also added that the second season will indeed see the return of Gi-Hun:
“But I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen. So I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, he’ll do something for the world.”
The creator previously spoke with The Guardian about season two, saying:
“Of course, there is talk, that’s inevitable because it’s been such a success. I am considering it. I have a very high-level picture in my mind, but I’m not going to work on it straight away. There’s a film I really want to make. I’m thinking about which to do first. I’m going to talk to Netflix.”
A film, and a new series!? Count us in!
Although the show is experiencing huge success right now, the creator recently revealed that it was rejected by studios for over ten years. Speaking to The Korea Times he said:
“After about 12 years, the world has changed into a place where such peculiar, violent survival stories are actually welcomed.”
