How long have you been a cosplayer?
I only have about a year of experience in cosplay but you could say I started in 2017. I had a 5 year break to go to university and rediscovered cosplay as a passion just last year.

What got you into cosplay?
I have to thank my sister for getting me into cosplay, she had done it for a handful years and encouraged me to try it out, I was scared but eventually I did and the friends I made doing so have made it so rewarding!

Do you make, buy, or is it a combination?
I do a combination of making and buying. My favorite cosplays are the ones I’ve made, such a Bakugo which is completely handmade. But I think buying is a great choice for those looking for a fun experience with friends or those who aren’t yet comfortable making them.

First cosplay?
I think it’s easy to see that Bakugo is my favorite cosplay, and that’s partly because he was my first cosplay. I did young Bakugo as an intro to the scene, it was pretty casual and comfortable but gave me the enthusiasm to go all out and build him up!

Latest cosplay?
My latest cosplay is Kento Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Favorite thing about being a cosplayer?
The best part about being a cosplayer is really just meeting people through a shared interest and getting to act a little goofy in a space that celebrates it.

Least favorite thing?
My least favorite thing might be that a small number of people don’t respect boundaries. We may dress up as our favorite characters but it’s important to remember that we are people too and consent is important, for photos, touching, etc. I’m sure most cosplayers would say the same thing.

What do you do for work outside of cosplay?
Outside of cosplay I am a mechanical engineer! And I definitely try to make good use of my skillset for cosplay.

What are your top 3 fandoms?
My top 3 fandoms right now would be Dr Stone, Spy X Family, and Way of the House Husband.

What cosplay are you planning next?
I am planning a few cosplays but the one I am looking forward to is Senku from Dr. Stone, as it’s a cosplay that my siblings are excited to join me in doing. I should mention that I also have a physics degree and science is my thing.

What’s one piece of advice for new cosplayers?
One Piece of advice (haha) I’d have for new cosplayers is that it doesn’t really matter what others think or want, try to have fun with it for yourself. Even if it’s from an old show nobody remembers. if it’s what you like then I say do it! And if you can challenge yourself or learn from going for it, even better!

Where can people find you on social media?
If you’d like to see where my adventure goes from here you can find me @Starisho.cos on Instagram.
