New ‘Scream VI’ Images Showcase Hayden Panettiere Returning as Kirby Reed

With less than two months to go before the sixth installment of the Scream franchise hits the big screen, marketing and promotion for the film continue to grow. A short teaser trailer has already given us our first look at the film, but there’s more to come.

Ahead of tomorrow’s official trailer debut, Entertainment Weekly has released images that give us a closer look at a host of characters, including a first official look at Hayden Panettiere’s returning Kirby Reed. The images (which you can check out, below) also offer up a look at Ghostface – mid-attack in an apartment – as well as shots of the returning cast and newcomer, Dermot Mulroney.

Alongside the release of the images, cast members Courtney Cox and Hayden Panettiere have spoken with Entertainment Weekly and offered fans a little tease of what’s to come. Cox, who also serves as an executive producer for the film, spoke about how the change in location impacts the film, saying:

“Bringing Ghostface to New York adds an entirely new element to the story. Taking the character out of a small town and putting them in the heart of the city that never sleeps is more terrifying than ever.”

Panettiere, who played fan favorite Kirby Reed in Scream 4, spoke about how Kirby’s life has been since the last time we saw her, saying:

“Kirby has come a long way. What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the heart of it. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff.”

Scream VI is set to follow the surviving members of Ghostface’s latest killing spree as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a new chapter in New York City. While tomorrow’s trailer will give us a much better idea of what’s to come, cast members Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega (who return as the Carpenter sisters, Sam and Tara) have previously spoken about the film, calling it “20 times more mortifying,” and “action and gore-heavy.”

Original Scream writer Kevin Williamson has also shared his opinion of the film, saying:

“It doesn’t feel like ‘Part 6,’ it feels like you’re watching this big, huge, fresh reinvention. I love, love, love, love it. I’ve watched the movie with a big smile on my face. I think it’s everything and more. And going to New York was awesome. The movie feels new, it feels fresh, it feels like a new movie. It’s really good. It’s great. There’s no way around it. I’m very happy with how it turned out … I really do have all that enthusiasm for it. I’m really excited.”

Scream VI stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding,  Courtney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Jack ChampionLiana LiberatoDevyn Nekoda, and Josh Segarra.

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are back to direct the film, which also sees James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick return to pen the script.

Scream VI is set to slash into theatres on March 10th, 2024.
