Negan & Maggie To Star In New Walking Dead Spinoff – Isle of The Dead

The world of The Walking Dead continues to grow with yet another spinoff announced today.

Titled, Isle of The Dead, the new series will be set in New York City and envision a Manhattan “long ago cut off from the mainland” that is filled with the living and dead alike.

In a surprising twist, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will both return and reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan. The pairs complicated relationship has been a key focal point of The Walking Dead’s final season and this dynamic looks set to continue here.

The first season of Isle of The Dead will consist of six episodes and see Eli Jorné serve as showrunner. Scott M. Gimple will act as executive producer.

As part of the announcement, AMC released a teaser poster, which you can check out below.

While there has been no mention of additional cast members, it’s hard to ignore ties to The Walking Dead’s past. The “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” door and placement of the “Lincoln Tunnel” sign are likely to get fans speculating about the possibility of a Rick Grimes appearance. Only time will tell if the series will pull the trigger on that return.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan gave his thoughts on the announcement, saying:

“I’m delighted that Negan and Maggie’s journey continues. It’s been such a ride walking in Negan’s shoes, I’m beyond excited to continue his journey in New York City with Lauren. Walkers in an urban setting has always been such a cool image, but 5th Avenue, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty? The greatest city in the world?? The backdrop is amazing, but it’s the story that Eli Jorné cooked up that is even better. Buckle up folks, Isle of the Dead is going to reinvent the TWD Universe. Huge thank you to Dan McDermott, Scott Gimple and AMC for having us back for more… we simply can’t wait.”

News of yet another Walking Dead spinoff will help cushion the blow as fans prepare to say goodbye to the main series. Isle of The Dead is the fifth spinoff to be announced, and will join an ever-growing expansion of this universe.

Isle of The Dead is expected to release sometime in 2023.
