Lady Gaga In Talks To Play Harley Quinn In Joker Sequel

Lady Gaga is reportedly in early talks to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillips Joker sequel, Folie à Deux.

News of the sequel broke last week when Phillips took to his Instagram to release a picture of the script alongside a shot of Phoenix reading it. Although the actor has yet to officially sign on to the project, it is expected that he will return as Arthur Fleck/Joker.

The term Folie à Deux translates into English as “madness for two,” and references a medical term for “shared psychosis” or “shared delusional disorder.” This seems to indicate that Joker will have a new friend joining him this time around.

Enter Gaga.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

“Details on her character are being kept under wraps, but Joker is known for his on-off abusive relationship with Harley Quinn, his psychiatrist at the mental institution known as Arkham Asylum who falls in love with him and becomes his sidekick and partner in crime.”

They continue:

“If a deal makes, Gaga would play Quinn. However, this new Quinn exists in a different DC universe than Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, which most recently appeared in 2021’s The Suicide Squad as well as several other films.”

The site also reports that the sequel could end up being a musical!

2019’s Joker became one of the most successful comic-book movies ever, both at the box office and on the awards circuit. The film became the first R-rated movie ever to gross $1 billion worldwide and earned 12 Oscar nominations, with Phoenix winning his first Oscar for his performance.

Todd Phillips and Joker co-writer Scott Silver wrote the script for Folie à Deux.
