Hours before its expected release during the Super Bowl, Universal has released the first official trailer for Jordan Peele’s Nope.
Peele, who was previously known for his work on the sketch comedy series Key & Peele, is now one of the most critically acclaimed horror directors working today.
The film, due out this summer, will be Peele’s third written and directed entry into the horror genre. His previous work includes 2019’s Us and his searing directorial debut Get Out, which won him the Oscar for best original screenplay.
As has become common practice with Peele’s projects, little was known about Nope before the trailer release. The only hint came from an ominous poster that featured a dark cloud with a string hanging from it.
Now, the full trailer gives us a closer look at what’s to come. Has the visionary mind of Jordan Peele delved into the world beyond our skies? Given our first look at the film, it certainly looks that way. Although Peele is known for his twisty plots so expect some surprises along the way.
The trailer has a distinctively western aesthetic and sees residents of a small mountain town bear witness to unexplained events in the skies. These events become all too close when unseen forces begin their assault.
Check out the trailer below.
Described as a “reimagining of a summer movie with a new pop nightmare,” Nope will reunite the director with Daniel Kaluuya, who starred in Get Out. Scream Queen Keke Palmer and The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun will also star.
Nope will arrive in theatres on July 22nd, 2022.
