Is There a Murder in “The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window?” (Trailer)

Netflix’s brand new series The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window, (try saying that five times!) promises a satirical take on similar genre entries.

Starring Kristen Bell, the dark comedy-thriller series is set to kick off the new year with a bang.

The official synopsis for the series reads:

“For heartbroken Anna (Kristen Bell), every day is the same. She sits with her wine, staring out the window, watching life go by without her. But when a handsome neighbor (Tom Riley) and his adorable daughter move in across the street, Anna starts to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That is until she witnesses a gruesome murder… Or did she?”

In a brand new trailer, Anna is convinced she’s witnessed a murder, but no one believes her.

The series looks set to focus on the unreliable narrator perspective, as we are left to question how reliable our protagonist is. Her admission that she drinks a lot and mixes it with pills leaves everyone around her doubting her claims.

While trying to maintain a straight-faced approach, it’s clear to see the series will parody films like Gone GirlThe Girl on the Train, and, not surprisingly, The Woman in the Window. The delicate balance of comedy and thriller is apparent throughout the new trailer as events begin to escalate.

The series is described as, “a darkly comedic, wine-soaked, satirical slant on the psychological thriller that will have you guessing who, what, where, why, and how in the hell?! until the very end.”

Bell’s previous work in the mystery-thriller series Veronica Mars is likely to combine with her comedy roots in this one.

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window premieres January 28th, exclusively on Netflix.
