Netflix has finally given fans of Gundam their first look at the upcoming live-action movie. Sunrise and Legendary Pictures revealed the concept art for the film during the Netflix Festival Japan 2021 event that took place Tuesday.
Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will helm the feature as both executive producer and director, with comic book author, Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina, Runaways) writing the script.
Ken Iyadomi, Napton and Sunrise’s Executive Expert for film production, revealed details of the production at a Project Anime Industry presentation back in 2019, saying that the Gundam Unicorn’s cameo in Pacific Rim: Uprising helped establish the relationship between Sunrise and Legendary pictures, allowing talks for a Gundam film to begin.
Iyadomi added that although contacting the right people for the deal was difficult, the CEO of Sunrise was very easy to convince.
At the time of writing, no plot details, casting, or release date have been revealed, but director Jordan Vogt-Roberts did release a short video message to all fans of the franchise, Sunrise, and the Bandai Namco Group regarding the film.

The film will stream exclusively on Netflix internationally, with the exception of China, where Legendary will head distribution.
