Fandom News Roundup 8/14-8/20/21

What’s up, Fandom Fans! We are about halfway through August, and we can smell the pumpkin spice just around the corner. As we move closer to a change in seasons, the world of fandom is getting ready for a difference too. The Fall season brings with it new films, new series, and new news. Still, with a little bit of Summer left, we got some hot stories to share. So, put down that Holloween sweater, and let’s get reading.

A Second Shot at The Last Airbender

Netflix’s Avatar Studios recently announced the cast for the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko. Many were excited about the casting news, but some felt concerned about the casting choice for Katara and Sokka. The actors portraying these well-known characters are noticeably lighter than their counterparts. A similar complaint was made with M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender film. Perhaps artist Shan Maxx 5’s rendering of Cormier as Aang was done to give Avatar fans some hope. If Netflix can make Cormier look as good as this edit, we may trust them with the rest of the cast look.
