Every hero has a beginning.
Disney and Pixar have released a brand new trailer for their upcoming release, Lightyear.
In what is likely to be one of 2022’s movie highlights, Lightyear will serve as an origin story for the “real” Buzz Lightyear – the hero who inspired the toy. The film will follow the legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure to infinity and beyond.
The new action-packed trailer picks up with Buzz and Star Command as they attempt a test flight to escape a planet they have been marooned on for a year. A successful launch propels Buzz into a galaxy where he is pursued by legions of robots and unknown creatures. All the while, he is joined by his new personal companion robot and comedy buddy character, Sox the cat.

“Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about,” said director Angus MacLane. “In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lighytear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”
Chris Evans will voice this version of Buzz Lightyear, taking over the mantle from Tim Allen. Peter Sohn will voice Buzz’s robot companion, Sox, while Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi are also part of the voice ensemble cast.
Lightyear arrives in cinemas on June 17th.
