Cure Childhood Cancer Selected as Dragon Con 2023 Official Charity

Over the last decade, Dragon Con has consistently raised more than $100,000 for each of its annual official charities, including a dollar-for-dollar match from the convention up to $100,000.  After the 2022 convention raised more than $206,000 for the official charity Open Hand Atlanta – a record amount, even as the convention was smaller than in pre-pandemic years – Dragon Con elected to increase its match to $125,000 in 2023.  Funds are raised through convention-based auctions, special merchandise sales, special events, and the dollar-for-dollar match.

This year they have selected CURE Childhood Cancer as its official charity for 2023.

Since CURE’s founding in 1975, it has raised millions of dollars to advance promising research, lobbied for important legislation, and provided tangible support to thousands of childhood cancer patients and their families in the Atlanta metro area and across Georgia. Over the last 12 years, the organization has invested more than $38 million in innovative research.  Callaway’s law, which requires insurance companies operating in Georgia to pay for experimental therapies to treat childhood cancers is CURE’s signature legislative achievement.

Pat Henry, president of Dragon Con, Inc. shared his thoughts on the announcement,

“We are blessed with a generous fan community who never fail our official charities. The charity changes every year, but our fans always find a way to give unselfishly to make a difference here at home[…]”

“I expect nothing different in 2023 and I’m looking forward to sending CURE a really big check.”

Dragon Con 2023 is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31 to Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, in downtown Atlanta. The convention attracts more than 60,000 fans from all 50 states and several foreign countries who come to Dragon Con to meet their favorite actors, creators, and experts, show off their latest cosplay, make new friends, and revel in the joy that is Dragon Con.
