4 Upcoming Webtoon Adaptations To Look Out For

Webtoons continue to increase in popularity as they trend worldwide. With new stories being released weekly it’s no surprise there are more adaptations being released.  As more webtoon snag adaptation deals, we can look forward to more shows and movies hitting the screens this year. Here is the latest roundup of some webtoons to check out before their adaptations are released.

Violence Action

Based on the webtoon titled Violence Action by Renji Asai & Shin Sawada, this live-action movie is set to be released in Summer 2022 in Japan. The series follows Kei Kikuno who attends a vocational school as a student. She works as a contract killer as a part-time job. She is excellent at her job but things suddenly change when one day she receives a very challenging request. The film will be directed by Toichiro Ruto who recently worked on The Way of the Househusband.  Kanna Hashimoto who has starred in the live-action version of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War and Assassination Classroom: Graduation will play the main role of Kei Kikuno.

Mask Girl

In this series, Kim Mo Mi is an ordinary office woman with a severe sense of inferiority in appearance and is caught up in various incidents while an internet broadcasting streamer with her face covered with a mask. Joo Oh-Nam, Kim Mo-Mi’s colleague at work is an avid fan of Mask Girl and learns her true identity. One day, he goes missing. His mother, Kim Kyung-Ja begins to search for his whereabouts in this heart-racing thriller. This series stars Ko Hyun-Jung as Kim Mo-Mi, Ahn Jae-Hong as Joo Oh-Nam, and Yum Hye-Ran as Kim Kyung-Ja.  A release date has yet to be announced.

Weak Hero

Weak Hero’s leading actor is  Park Ji Hoon, a former member of the K-pop group Wanna One, and has acted in dramas such as At a Distance, Spring is Green, and Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency. The series is based on webcomic Yakhanyoungwoong by Seo Pae-Seu. In this drama, Yeon Shi-Eun is a model student, who ranks at the top at his high school. Physically, he appears to be weak but, he uses his intelligence, tools, and psychology to fight against violence that takes place inside and outside of his school. Weak Hero will stream on the Waave platform sometime in the second half of 2022.

The Girl Downstairs

K-Pop Singer and actress Suzy is reportedly in talks to lead a new Netflix series based on the webtoon The Girl Downstairs. Created by Songah Min, this Naver webtoon is about an ex-idol Lee Du Na, and college freshman Lee Won Joon who end up living together in shared housing. Suzy has been offered the leading role of Lee Du Na, the main vocalist of the girl group Dream Sweet who suddenly decided to retire. More details are to come but in the meantime, you can read the series on the Line Webtoon platform.
