Smallville fans were thrilled to learn Tom Welling would be reprising his role as Clark Kent in Crisis on Infinite Earths. But today it was reported by multiple sources that Erica Durance will also be appearing in the Arrowverse crossover event as Lois Lane from Smallville.
While Durance has appeared in the Arrowverse before, playing the role of Supergirl’s mother Alura Zor-El, this time she will be playing the character she portrayed in Smallville. Whether the “resemblance” will be addressed or ignored is yet to be determined. It has already been reported that Brandon Routh, who portrays Ray Palmer, a.k.a. the Atom, in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and was introduced on The Flash, will be returning to his 2006 movie role as Superman. So it will be interesting to see if characters will note the resemblance or ignore it. As John Diggle from Arrow was identified by John Wesley Shipp’s Barry Allen version of the Flash as “John” but “without his ring,” these doppelgangers may very well be recognized.
Will this be the extent of Smallville’s‘ presence in Crisis? Some fans would love to see Michael Rosenbaum reprise his role as Lex Luthor and Laura Vandervoort return as Supergirl. With a minimum of three Supermans and two Lois Lanes, it would be sad to see only one Lex Luthor in Jon Cryer and only one Supergirl. It would also be interesting to see characters such as Justin Hartley’s Oliver Queen/Green Arrow and Kyle Gallner’s Flash/Impulse make an appearance.
Crisis on Infinite Earths kicks off with Supergirl on Sunday, December 8th, continues in Batwoman on Monday, December 9th and The Flash on Tuesday, December 10th. After the midseason break, the story picks up on Tuesday, January 14th on Arrow at 8:00 PM EST and concludes with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow at 9:00 PM that same evening.
