Paramount+ Lands Rights To Upcoming ‘Frasier’ Sequel

The long-awaited Frasier sequel is finally gaining momentum with Paramount+ landing the rights to the series.

One of television’s most beloved comedies, Fraiser had a record-breaking run in the 90s, which saw the show set a record for the most Emmy Awards won by a scripted series at the time.

News of a potential return dates back to 2018 when star Kelsey Grammer began attempts to generate interest in a revival. Confirmation of its development arrived in 2021 and now the series has its official home.

Details about the new series are limited at this time, but Grammer has been confirmed to reprise his role as the beloved psychiatrist in a brand new city. Frasier’s original run ended in 2004 and saw the Doc leaving Seattle behind in favor of a fresh start in San Francisco. Whether this will be the setting for the new series is still unknown.

The revival will also consist of a brand new set of characters, with Frasier’s original cast members not expected to return. Although guest appearances from the likes of Niles and Daphne could still be in the cards.

Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces) will write the new incarnation of Fraiser, as well as serve as executive producers alongside Grammer, Tom Russo, and Jordan McMahon.

Grammer previously spoke to Deadline about the revival and confirmed that they were in the final stages of the script for the first episode, adding that it looked pretty good – “I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I’m happy.”

Grammer also added that the titular character was the key element in bringing the series back:

“The key ingredient for the Frasier reboot is actually Frasier, honestly. It was always called [Frasier], so it’s me, the key is me.”

Speaking in another interview with WNBC New York, Grammer shared more on where Fraiser is after all this time, saying:

“He thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction. And he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”

There is no confirmed arrival date for the new series yet, but it is expected to land on the streamer sometime in 2023.
