Recently, reboots of video games, TV series, movies, and more have been on the rise. Though I’m sometimes on the fence about reboots, they can actually be entertaining. Especially when they pay homage to all of the original material that fans know and love.
It was just announced that one of my favorite TV game shows from my childhood, Legends of The Hidden Temple, is coming back with a brand-new look. As a child, I always wanted to participate in the game show as they answered history trivia questions, completed mini-games for tokens, and raced through the temple maze to win the grand prize. I’m excited to see how the show will return, and in my excitement, I want to discuss a few other games shows I’d love to see make a return.
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
Airing in the 90s, this half-hour children’s television game show was based on the Carmen Sandiego computer game series. Hosted by Greg Lee, each episode consisted of three middle-school contestants competing against one another and answering geography-related trivia questions to determine the location of one of Carmen Sandiego’s cronies and eventually, Carmen herself. It was fun, thrilling, and full of world history trivia questions that kept contestants and viewers on their toes. I love trivia games so I think a show in this format with be popular with viewers of all ages.
Scaredy Camp
This a competition show that was short-lived, but it scared me so much watching as a child! Part reality and part game show, children competed against each other to find clues about urban legends surrounding the summer camp that they are attending. It was set on campgrounds and the urban legends themselves were quite spooky. A lot of the challenges tied into each episode’s legend and took place. It could be revamped as a show for kids, adults, or even a team family challenge on similar shows such as Double Dare.
GUTS
GUTS originally ran from 1992 to 1995 on Nickelodeon. Each episode features three young athletes competing against each other in four extreme versions of athletic events. The final round set the three competitors on a race up the Super Aggro Crag to decide the winner. This show had you on the edge of the seat with each new competitive challenge and the events were quite difficult. Shows like Wipeout and Ninja Warrior are very popular so I think this would be a successful reboot. A new and improved Super Aggro Crag challenge would be exciting to watch!
