Do you like scary movies?
Iconic horror series Scream returns to the big screen with the franchise’s fifth installment. The film, simply titled, ‘Scream’, has been billed as a relaunch of the franchise, which will give a fresh new take on the series.
The film, confirmed for release on January 14th, 2022, will be the first to hit the big screen since 2011’s Scream 4. With other content from the franchise confined to a TV series that aired from 2015 to 2019.
Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courtney Cox return to reprise their original roles, with franchise newcomers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Jack Quaid adding to the cast. The film is the first that will not be directed by the late Wes Craven, with Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett brought in to helm the feature.
The official synopsis reads as follows:
“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
Marketing for the film has ramped up during the past week, with exclusive images showing both old and new characters, as well as the return of Woodbury’s legendary masked killer, Ghostface! But who is the man, or woman behind the mask this time? We will have to wait a couple of months to find that out, but in the meantime, check out the first trailer for ‘Scream’ below!
