TGIF Fandom Fans! As we find ourselves in the spirit of the holidays, we can’t help but be preoccupied with other things. I’ve been baking Christmas cookies nonstop. While you are decorating, wrapping gifts, spending time with loved ones, and being cheery, you might have missed out on some fandom news. Luckily, you have us at Fandom Spotlite to keep you in the know! This week was a bit slow but there are a few interesting stories we want to share with you. Netflix Japan Drops a Smile Bomb!

Netflix & Netflix Japan announced that they are working on a live-action adaption of Yu Yu Hakusho. Yu Yu Hakusho tells the story of  Yusuke Urameshi, who dies but is given a second chance at life…for a price. This anime and manga are a favorite of many 90s babies. There is no information yet on when it will be released or who has been cast yet.  Kazutaka Sakamoto (Aggretsuko, Devilman Crybaby) is executive producing and Teru Morii is a  producer.

More Enter the Spider-verse

Marvel Entertainment continues to go all out by adding even more actors to Spider-Man 3What is their production budget for this film? According to reports, two Green Goblins will be reprising their roles; Willem Dafoe and Dane Dehaan. Thomas Haden Church will also be returning as the villain, Sandman.

A Solider at Hart?

The hit video game franchise, Borderlands, had been previously announced to be getting a live-action feature film. Actress Cate Blanchett has already been slated to play Lilith. News website theilluminerdi reports that comedian Kevin Hart is in negotiations to join the film. Hart may be playing Roland aka “The Solider.”

Don’t Get Water on These

Ever wanted to own a Mogwai but don’t want the commitment and the fear attached to a live one? Well, now you kinda can. Adidas has created a limited-edition sneaker that looks like Gizmo. The “Christmas Monster,” will be released on Adidas’s website and select retailers on December 19, 2020. The fuzzy sneakers are half brown and half white, with Gizmo’s eyes peering out from the heels. On the insole, made to look like Gremlin skin, they’ve printed the iconic care instructions from Joe Dante’s holiday horror classic. The sneakers will also be waterproof!

Depp to Davey Jones’ Locker

Johnny Depp’s personal life and public court case affects another one of his films. Depp was “released” from the Fantastic Beasts series and replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. Now, Disney will not be bringing Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow for the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. What is more shocking is that Depp’s ex-wife and alleged abuser Amber Heard is “in talks” to join Margot Robbie in the Pirates reboot.
