Mama Mia! More Chris Pratt Mario News!

Many fans were not thrilled about Chris Pratt’s casting as the voice of Mario.  The CEO of  Illumination, Chris Meledandri, offered his opinion on why the casting is “ok.”

According to Meledandri Pratt’s casting is ok for these reasons:

All I can tell you is the voice that he’s doing for us, and Mario is phenomenal,”

“Charlie Day, who’s playing Luigi, actually comes from Italian heritage. Yeah, so that’s our nod.”

The accent issue would be a self-referential joke within the film.

“Well, as an Italian American myself, I understand,” Meledandri conceded. “You know, I understand the comments.”

To sum it up: the CEO of the studio producing the film is Italian and they have one actor of Italian descent.  Plus we are going to make the accent a running gag. So, it’s fine!

Something tells us he is going to have to retract his statement soon.
