Awesome Con 2018 Celebrates Fandom and DC’s Superman in DC

Awesome Con returned to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from March 30th to April 1st, 2018. This ever growing convention brought a whole new group of actors and artists to their event in hopes of attracting lots of fans. And their hopes were fulfilled as tens of thousands of attendees showed up.

For six years this event has brought fans to the nation’s capitol. With loads of vendors, artists and panels, there is always something for people to do. This year, fan favorites John Barrowman, Stephen Amell, Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Charisma Carpenter, John Boyega, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Cress Williams, Michael Rooker and many more. Cast members from Boy Meets World, voice actors from your favorite video games, and actors from the Final Frontier met attendees, signed autographs and posed for pictures.

While for some this event was about the stars, there were plenty of other reasons for people to attend.

Lots To Shop

The vendor area was full of various kinds of merchandise. Comic books, costume pieces, toys, t-shirts and artwork was available in every aisle. And if you really like art, many artists were there with their own work in the form of prints, originals, comics and posters. Want something special and unique? Many artists were available for commissions on site.

Panels and Events

Panels of all kinds were running over the weekend. From fan run panels on cosplay, diversity and media to actors recounting stories and taking questions on stage, there was plenty of entertainment. (To see the full Smallville panel featuring Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum, click here.)

Netflix previewed the first episode of Lost in Space, which they are releasing later this month (April 13th), for attendees and had an interactive booth promoting the series. (See our review of the first episode here.)

This event was also dedicated to the 80th birthday of one of the most recognizable superheroes in the world: Superman. Special panels, merchandise and displays commemorated this landmark character.

Cosplayers Galore

And of course there was cosplay. There were costumes from anime, video games, comic books, TV shows, movies, science fiction, fantasy and so much more. You can find some of the finest cosplay wandering the floor of the convention and they were quite happy to pose for pictures. Many of them were dressed as characters from the shows and movies in which the actor guests had roles. There were even a few cosplay families around. (For a gallery of just a sample of the incredible cosplay, click here.)

The three days of the con went by quickly, but fans seemed to be quite pleased with their experience. This convention has quickly become one of the premiere conventions on the east coast and we look forward to seeing what’s in store for next year.
